Orla Mining and Equinox Gold fell on news of a blockade at Orla’s Camino Rojo mine in Mexico. The blockade has now been lifted and work resumed.

Orla Mining and Equinox Gold fell on news of a blockade at Orla’s Camino Rojo mine in Mexico. The blockade has now been lifted and work resumed.

This seems to be the result of a long running dispte between Orla and a union at the mine, which has also involved a court case over representation at the mine between two unions.

One hopes the issue will be resolved quickly as it’s now damaging both companies share prices before the business combination.

Pacgold has announced it is to demerge its Queensland assets, including the prospective Alice River gold project, into a new company, Manda.

The company will then focus on the White Dam gold project, where small scale production of around 500 – 600 ounces per month has started, and this will fund exploration to try and extand the resource and life of mine.

Pacgold shareholders will benefit form an in-specie distribution of 1 for 6 shares in Manda.

It would appear however that this benefit is reserved for Australia and New Zealand based shareholders, but not those in the rest of the world. I have asked the company to confirm this, but have not received a reply so far, which augurs badly, in my opinion.

I am going to sell my holding if UK shareholders are excluded from the in-specie distribution on the principle that we are being disadvantaged to the benefit of local shareholders.

Surely ALL shareholders should be treated equally?

The American war on Iran continues to create volatility in the market, with gold moving further downwards during the constant positive and negative announcements being made by Trump and Iran.

Every sign of peace results in a higher gold price and oil falls, then another announcement reverses everything. This is a real nonsense, a US President should not be behaving like this in my opinion.

Precious metals traded mostly sideways during the week, but that failed to stem the losses of the mining stocks.

A good example is G Mining Ventures is now off around 25% from the high, despite everything being on track for the new Oko West gold mine in Guyana in around a year or so.

The company released strong results this week but the share price continued to decline.

Mogotes Meals announced a major discovery in Southern Argentina at its Filo Sur project.

Altair Minerals and Barton Gold both announced good gold discoveries at their respective projects in Guyana and South Australia.

News from our watchlist companies this week was dominated by Australia, with Barton Gold, Kaiser Reef, and Ora Banda all reporting good drilling results.

Heliostar Metals also reported high-grade drill results at their Ana Paula Mexican gold project.

There was plenty of positive news releases made by companies on out watchlists this week, dominated by Australia, with Barton Gold, Kaiser Reef, and Ora Banda all reporting good drilling results.

Heliostar Metals also reported high-grade drill results at their Ana Paula Mexican gold project.

Meeka Metals announced a gold acquisition at Mt Holland, and Lahontan Gold reported positive cyanide recoveries for gold and silver.

All in all a good week for news, although market and gold price volatility meant this positivity wasn’t relected in the share prices of the companies concerned.

Patience isn’t just a virtue, it’s a necessity in this mining investment game.

An absolutely horrendous week for investors in the mining space, with the price of gold falling a whopping 11% in a week, and silver down 16%.

Mining companies’ shares were clobbered on the market, despite some releasing excellent results, the market was unforgiving and merciless.

An absolutely horrendous week for investors in the mining space, with the price of gold falling a whopping 11% in a week, and silver down 16%.

Mining companies’ shares were clobbered on the market, despite some releasing excellent results, the market was unforgiving and merciless.

This was my worst ever week as an investor, where my stocks were virtually all marked down severely as a result of a falling gold price. Some have fallen 33% in a couple of weeks despite producing gold and complying to their previously announced guidance, and despite the geopolitical events ongoing that would normally benefit the gold price, such as the Iran war.

Gold is, in fact, still UP on a year to date basis, it’s sentiment that has changed, and I wonder what the ctatalyst will be to break the falling price?

I attended the Swiss Mining Conference in Zurich this week, and companies present were putting a brave face on their falling shareprices, but the mood was fairly sombre and a few were even non-attendees.

I met some decent new stories and continue to research both new and existing holdings to make up a by list for when the market turns, which it will do at some point, it always does.

It was another volatile week on the metals markets, with gold, silver, and most other metals falling in price.

As a result many miners are falling in value, as oil is one of the major costs of mining for most companies, and especially open pit projects. One market commentator stated that oil accounts for around 9% of the cost of gold mining.

Whilst it’s dispiriting to see the price of well performing companies falling, I’m maintaining my positions. Once the Iran turmoil is over I expect a relief rally,

it’s a question of waiting for me.

Gold stocks in my portfolio were mainly down as a result of the 2% fall in price of the gold. I am not taking any action, as Charlie Munger once said, “time in the market beats timing the market”.

In my experience that is mainly the case, over time the markets rise, and I have never been good at trying to time trades so sitting and holding is my preferred method of increasing my portfolio value.

The price of gold fell in US dollar terms, but the UK pound price actually increased as a result of a fall in the value of the pound versus the dollar.

This highlights the store of value offered by gold to investors in a country such as the UK where the government is felt to be running the economy down, and in a way negative to growth and business entrepreneurship.

Silver and palladium took huge hits, dropping 9.95% and 12.16% respectively.

n general this was another week of precious metals volatility, despite the US and Israeli attacks on Iran continuing, and the price of oil rising fast.

The price of gold fluctuated around the $5,000 level all week, ending strongly as the likelihood of the US attacking Iran increased as the US was confirmed at considering a “limited first strike” to pursuade the Iranians to make a deal.

Silver and palladium also had a good week, but platinum reversed on higher inventory news.
