Battery Metals Conference Cape Town 2019

Following on from the 121 Forum, Simon Moore’s Benchmark Mineral Intelligence Group held a one day conference in Cape Town, where the keynote speaker was Robert Friedland, of Voisey’s Bay fame, amongst others.

Unsurprisingly the room was full for a bunch of presentations by battery metal companies, and featured possibly the most unusual ‘gate crasher’ ever!.

Following on from the 121 Forum, Simon Moore’s Benchmark Mineral Intelligence Group held a one day conference in Cape Town, where the keynote speaker was Robert Friedland, of Voisey’s Bay fame, amongst others.

.

Unsurprisingly the room was full for a bunch of presentations by battery metal companies, and featured possibly the most unusual ‘gate crasher’ ever!.

.

The meeting contained a group of companies from the 121 conference that preceded it, including our own Neometals, where Chris Read gave his usual polished performance.

.

The room was then abuzz as Robert Friedland arrived, and there wasn’t a spare seat in the house to hear him speak. Robert is pictured below with his assistant waiting for his turn to speak.

.

Robert is a terrific speaker, incorporates plenty of humour amongst the facts, and on this occasion was in top form, speaking for around 1 hour 20 minutes. it was enthralling as he pushed the case for battery metals and went through some of the environmental problems being created by diesel particulates, for example.

.

There is clearly an urgency for change to reduce pollution in cities, and the health problems now being caused.

.

Robert made himself available afterwards, and below Chris Reed of Neometals engages Robert in conversation.

.

.

And finally to the most unusual ‘gate crasher’ probably ever to be seen at a conference, a giant tortoise came through the door from the garden and proceeded to walk towards the food being set up.

.

.

At one point he nearly entered the conference, egged on by someone opening the door for him! and was the subject of much interest, and an amusing photo opportunity for those of us outside having a coffee.

.

Sadly a waiter came to remove him, and trust me, this guy is one heavy animal, he really struggled to carry him outside!
