PDAC 2020 – Day 2

#PDAC2020 – Day 2

Day 2 of the world’s largest mining show was busier than the previous day, whch s strange as Sunday is normally the busiest day. Perhaps the $25 entrance fee has put off some casual local visitors?

Monday is traditionally the day Bay Street visits the show, so more suits in attendance, bt still not as busy as last year. I am told attendance is 20% down but we will have to wait for the official numbers.

#PDAC2020 – Day 2

Day 2 of the world’s largest mining show was busier than the previous day, whch s strange as Sunday is normally the busiest day. Perhaps the $25 entrance fee has put off some casual local visitors?

.

Monday is traditionally the day Bay Street visits the show, so more suits in attendance, bt still not as busy as last year. I am told attendance is 20% down but we will have to wait for the official numbers.

.

One unique feature of this show is that two companies have abandoned their booths and gone home after deciding they don’t want any possible exposure to the Coronavirus!  So they have simply left a note saying they have gone, and why.  In one case they have left a stack of business cards!

.

Walking around the show one frustration I have this year is that the CEO’s are away at “mettings”, in some cases all day!  The whole point of attending the event is to be able to engage with the man running the company, so if that is no longer possible then the value of coming will be eliminated.

.

There needs to be a fixed time when every CEO will be on their booth so that people can go and chat to them. This is the most important aspect of the show for me.

.

I have had some constructive conversations with various companies, and was pleased I managed to catch Ely Gold Royalties, who were unaware hey have outperformed all the other royalty companies in the last two months.

.

There are only a few London AIM listed companies present, Condor Gold, who are dual listed on the TSX.V being the most prominent, and Conroy Gold, who always attend, but you have to wonder why as it never seems to develop anything!  At least they only have three people sitting on their booth this year, the professor and his wife weren’t there when I went past so not too many air fares and expensive hotels to pay out of shareholder funds!

.

Busy booths are Wesdome Gold, Barrick, and Zen Graphene Solutions for some reason.

.

Today is the final day for me, as Wednesday’s three hour short day is not worth attending anymore, with many stands empty early on due to people recovering from the festivities of the night before, and those that are there are looking at their watches waiting to pack up.
