November has become established as the European mining month, with shows in Munich, Switzerland, and then the two large conferences in London at the end of the month.

.

Of the foreign conferences I attend, Munich is my favourite, it has a friendly feel to it, not too big, not too small, around 50 or so Canadian and Australian listed companies, so just about enough time to cover over two days.

.

The show is situated in the Munich Tram Museum!  Yes, they move some of the historical trams outside to make way for the exhibition stands, and some very old trams remain and become intermixed with the mining company stands, offering an interesting interlude from talking to mining companies.

.

Munich is a beautiful Bavarian city, famous for BMW, and of course, its beer!  Upon arrival, one has to endure the painfully slow stopping train from the airport to the Haupbanhoff (central station) , or pay some £70 for the taxi. I always take the pain!

.

I generally stay in the same hotel, a quick walk from the station, which has a lovely Italian restaurant underneath serving excellent food at reasonable prices.

.

The tram museum is not well placed, so either a fairly long and expensive taxi ride, or take the tube and then a long walk to arrive. Upon arrival, registration is quick and efficient, and then you walk past a number of trade stands for German bookshops and gold bullion dealers before entering the exhibition area.

.

The show is well laid out, and there is a conference area where companies present, and German newsletter writers promote their wares, and give their predictions.

,

I enjoy the atmosphere, the exhibitors are generally receptive to an English speaking investor, and two days is about right to speak to all the stands in turn. Unlike other shows, the CEO’s generally remain on the stand so you can normally speak to the people you want to.

.

Sadly after a couple of years of Thursday to Friday, the show has reverted to a Friday to Saturday format, not good news for us football fans who watch live games on a Saturday!

.

Once the show closes on Saturday afternoon, there is sufficient time to get to the airport for the last flight to Heathrow, with the one hour time difference ensuring a decent arrival time home.

.

For anyone who enjoys mining shows, Munich is well worth attending for the experience of attending a foreign show, it is friendly and welcoming.
