Oil and Gas Council
The Annual Oil and Gas Council conference was held today, and, despite the recent fall in the oil price, the attendance was huge, with around 560 delegates.
The organisation and venue were very impressive, as was the smooth running of the presentations and panel discussions. All told a first class conference, that held delegates’ attention all day.

The Annual Oil and Gas Council conference was held today, and, despite the recent fall in the oil price, the attendance was huge, with around 560 delegates.

The organisation and venue were very impressive, as was the smooth running of the presentations and panel discussions. All told a first class conference, that held delegates’ attention all day.

The conference hall was cavernous, and absolutely packed. One neat touch was that the first few rows of seats had a table in front of them, allowing laptops to be used and notes taken easily, a nice touch and one only ever employed at the better conferences.

Unlike mining conferences, where there now seems to almost one a month in London, oil and gas conferences are as common as Jeremy Corbyn fans at a pro Brexit meeting.

The main difference to mining conferences is there were few companies present, and more industry keynote speakers and panels of experts, which proved to be really interesting for the purist that is looking for future trends, rather than the instant gratification of hearing a company present and rushing to buy their shares on the back of it.

One London listed company that did make a presentation was Energean, and they have had a very good year share price wise, and have also dual listed on the Israeli Stock Exchange. They look a good company that are delivering on stated objectives with an experienced management team.

The food was unusual, in that the main buffet was almost 100% vegetarian, and then after finishing people were consuming the lovely desserts, and then they started bringing around bowls of curry with meat in them! It seemed a strange way to do it, many had eaten their dessert before the meat arrived, but it was delicious and well worth the wait.

Overall an excellent conference, well organised and smoothly executed, I hope to attend next year.
