Mines and Money London 2018 – Day 2

Mines and money London 2018 – Day 2

The first day proper of the Mines and Money London 2018 started today, and looked almost as busy as last year.

That first impression might have been misleading, due to the addition of a large presentation room on the floor, plus very narrow corridors, squeezing people into funnels, a normal conference trick to  give the impression of being busy.

Mines and money London 2018 – Day 2

The first day proper of the Mines and Money London 2018 started today, and looked as busy as last year, although first impressions might have been misleading, due to the addition of a large presentation room on the floor, plus very narrow corridors, squeezing people into funnels, a normal conference trick to  give the impression of being busy.

.

The first day of the main conference was well attended, and I was surprised to find there was a ‘buzz’, despite the poor performance of most mining stocks in 2018.

.

A confident and upbeat atmosphere normally pervades at a conference, and this was certainly the case, with many people predicting that the bottom was in and gold would soon be on the up, sentiments I have heard for the last few years at all conferences.  In a sense such events are ‘echo chambers’, with like minded people gathering together.

.

The meetings zone was a bit chaotic, although great credit must go to the staff who excelled at matching people and booths together, as there was no structure such as numbered tables allocated to each company, due to space limitations.   To be fair the meetings worked well, probably more by accident than design, and as already stated, great credit must go to the staff for their efforts, and all done with a smile in a hectic environment.

.

To be honest I am enjoying the show more than I thought, there are some good companies here, and it’s always good to catch up with old friends, and make a few new ones as well of course.

.

As is tradition, the show finished with free drinks, (but no canapés this year), giving time to network in a convivial atmosphere, before leaving for one of the post show parties, of which there were a few.

.

The prize for the best booth easily goes to RNC, with huge gold bearing rocks from their western Australia mine, they really had to be seen to be believed, they were easily the star of the show.
